Meeting Yourself Where You're At
Updated: Feb 12, 2021
What does that even mean, you might ask? There's lots of ways you can accomplish this:
Accepting yourself, even if you're not a far along in your goals as you'd prefer.
Listening to your body, and taking care of its needs in the moment, even if it feels "inconvenient."
Noticing when you're triggered into distress by something, and pausing to help your nervous system relax, and your mind to slow down to the speed of your breath.
Rolling with the things that Life throws at you, and showing up to the best of your ability, without judging yourself harshly, or putting yourself down for not doing it "good enough."
Meeting your fears, thoughts, beliefs, about yourself or anyone else, with curiosity, and a desire to seek understanding of their roots.
Offering yourself love, compassion, and grace, just because you are worthy of your own care and compassion.
Finding Gratitude for the way things are, because there's always something going right if we look for it.
Checking in with yourself, periodically throughout your day, and asking, "How am I doing right now?"
Using the props in yoga class, or the smaller weights in your workout, because you're tired or you need the extra support today, even if your ego get's bruised & upset in the process.
Giving yourself the grace of knowing, "I'm not ready for this new thing just yet," or, "I'm so ready for this new thing, even though it scares me a little!"
Letting yourself be, exactly who you are, exactly how you are, without "should-ing" on yourself.
Compassionately holding yourself, in whatever way you need, when you're not ok.
Wow, that may feel like a lot!
Take a deep breath. What does it feel like in your body to read these statements and consider treating yourself in this manner? Does it resonate with you? Does it feel exciting, scary, weird?
I encourage you to try at least one of these ways of being with yourself, of accepting yourself and meeting yourself exactly where you're at. You are so worthy of your own kindness and compassionI
