7 Tips for When You Don't Want to Face the World That I Call Portals to Embodiment

What do you do when it’s hard to wake up in the morning and face the day?

Whether it’s dread, overwhelm, depression, anxiety, or some other reason, sometimes, especially for Sensitives, it can be dreadfully challenging to simply get out of bed and start the day.

I decided to share what I like to call portals to embodiment, aka tips and practices to bring you back home to yourself for those moments when you're rather escape, and yet you still have adulting to do.

Quick Portals to Embodiment (So you can adult today)

  1. Brainwaves app. I swear by this. I have a morning playlist to get my brain awake and motivated to start my day. The music actually shifts your brainwaves state. All you have to do is press play and listen. My favorite tracks for the morning are Dopamine Cure, Super Brain Booster, and Brain Vitality.

  2. 3 words: Brain. Dump. Journaling. Processing a ton lately? (like all the insanity of the world right now, on top of your own life stressors) Are all the feelings jumbled up inside and you're ready to explode? Get it out of your head and onto paper. Set a timer for 3 minutes and release the pressure. Or talk it out to yourself in a voice memo or Vocal app. It doesn't have to be legible or make sense, just let It out, and you will feel immensely better and clearer-minded to start your day.

  3. Tap all over your body while you’re still laying in bed. Stretch, hug your knees to your chest, do anything that feels good to bring some movement into your body. Try the Tapping Solution app for specific tapping points and emotional issues, like anxiety or dread or overwhelm. Tapping on the body sends a calming signal to the amygdala, the part of the brain that decides if you need to be stressed or relaxed right now. You want it to choose "relaxed" so you can have your frontal lobe functioning again.

  4. Ask yourself, "What's one tiny thing I can do right now that will make me feel even just 1% better?" And then go do it! You don't have to make giant leaps; in fact, that may feel too jarring. Just find the next right step that improves your current situation.

  5. Read and rewrite your favorite affirmations. Your brain is very easily programmable first thing in the morning. Program the life experiences you want to happen. Read them while you tap on your body for double the benefit! Notice the giddiness and gumption that results. There's nothing more motivating than actually feeling good about yourself!

  6. Daydream. What’s one thing to look forward to today? Let yourself get excited about that. Play it out in your mind going amazingly well. Feel what that feels like in your body as you imagine these delightful scenarios. Yep, I'd be willing to be you feel more giddiness and gumption. Now you can sieze the day!

  7. Get outside in nature, (bare)feet on the ground, and breathe fresh air for 5 minutes. No phone, no socializing. Just you, the earth, the present moment and your breath. Tune into each of your senses: what do you see, smell, hear, feel, and taste in this present moment? Give yourself these precious moments at the beginning of your day to be where your feet are.

Here’s what NOT to do 1st thing in the morning:

  1. Read email

  2. Scroll social media

  3. Read the news

Why? Because all of those take you outside of yourself, outside of the present moment, and sends you straight to stress mode. Straight into other people's agendas, traumas, stressors and moods. Does that make you want to embody your day? Make you feel excited about life? Nope!

Give yourself a chance to actually want to embody your life with the portals to embodiment listed above!

And let me know how it goes for you.
